The true purpose of Christian education is to prepare young people for a complete life under the lordship of Jesus Christ.
The purpose of the Christian school is to provide a Biblically sound academic program of education in the spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical development of the child. The school is dedicated to presenting facts and knowledge about God’s world from a God-centered, rather than a man-centered, world-view.
We believe it is the Lord’s intention that we live our lives in the perspective of eternal values; furthermore, we have the responsibility of implanting these values in our children. Therefore, we set the following as our goals:
- Develop the student’s relationship with God
- Develop the student’s relationship with himself.
- Develop the student’s relationship with others.
- Assist the student in attaining academic excellence.
- Assist the student in assimilating knowledge that will be relevant and useful.
We want to ensure that the student comes to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, achieves a higher level of Christian maturity, attains a deeper commitment, and becomes a more effective witness for the Lord. We believe in the uniqueness and value of each person, and want to assist each student in developing his individual God-given talents and abilities. We want to promote self-discipline by helping each student be responsible, consistent, and thorough in character, attitudes, and actions.
The most formative years of a child’s life are spent in school, learning and being taught to prepare him for real life. Many in Anabaptist circles send their children to private Christian schools. So what are the marks of a Christian school?
First, Christian schools teach about God and His Word to us. Not only do they have Bible class, but Christ is recognized in every class and aspect of school. In Science, He is the Creator; in Math, the Ultimate Mathematician; and in History, the Beginning and the End. God is the basis all of Education.
Secondly, Christian schools seek, with God’s help, to assist parents in building the lives of their children. They recognize that children are the most valuable gift given to parents, and partner together in educating the child. That said, the Christian school is not a production line in which we can guarantee a parent that a changed human being will walk across the podium with a diploma one day.
A third reason for a Christian school is Biblical leadership. A Biblical leader is marked by his relentless pursuit of Jesus. In a Christian school, leadership in the classroom, on the playground, and in the principal’s office is marked with pure motives, God’s calling to leadership, and the leader’s commitment to obeying and pursuing Jesus Christ.
Finally, Christian schools teach a student that not only is he accountable to Biblical leadership, but more importantly, they are personally responsible to God. A student’s accountability rests not in his teacher, principal, or even parents, but in God. Each child must understand that he will stand before the living God to give account for his actions. While God has placed authority over them, when a student comes to realize he is accountable to God, it will make a life-changing difference.
